Mathew’s magical monthly medal round
Impressive... Mathew “Soup” Campbell, pictured with his score card, scored an incredible 66 off the stick last Thursday, the equal best amateur stroke score at Numurkah, matching the late Jarrod Lyle who also scored a 66 many years ago, before turning professional.

EVERY so often, a golfer has ‘one of those’ rounds, and in Saturday’s Mawson’s Quarries and Concrete February Monthly Medal Stroke it was Mathew “Soup” Campbell’s day with an incredible 66 of the stick, which netted down to 62, to street the 72 player strong men’s field.

This is the equal  best amateur stroke score at Numurkah, matching the late Jarrod Lyle who also scored a 66 many years ago, before turning professional and having a successful career. The best men’s stroke score is 65, set by professional Chris Gaunt.

Soup’s six birdies on the front nine, and an even par back nine, saw him clean up A Grade, the monthly medal, $125 in his portal along with an additional two balls for the best scratch score for the day. Runner-up in A Grade was Colin “Kilt Boy” McMinn, who was out early and must have been feeling confident that his nett 67 would be hard to beat, until Soup went out in the last group of the day. Colin picked up $30 for his efforts.
