All the fun of the show

THE Numurkah show has been hailed a huge success once again, with a great time had by one and all.

Under a beautiful blue sky, the year-long efforts of the hard working committee paid off in spades, with strong entries in almost all categories, and smiles on all faces - which Numurkah Agricultural and Pastoral Society secretary Sue Aldridge said is the true mark of a good show.

“Everybody had fun, and that’s what we really judge it by,” Ms Aldridge said.

“The committee members all agree that it went very well, and we were all very, very happy with it.”

Though, given the popularity of family passes, the number of attendees is impossible to pinpoint, the committee believe it’s safe to say that numbers were at least equal to recent years.

“We don’t have access to exact gate numbers, but it was a very good gate and we are more than happy with the attendance,” Ms Aldridge said.

Competitors were also happy with the show, with some of the state’s best show jumpers competing and complimenting the committee on the quality of the arena, which they agreed was the best show jumping ring in country Victoria.

Entry numbers in the dog show were also excellent, with those who entered their canine companions for the judges’ scrutiny praising it as the best Victorian dog show outside of Melbourne.

Ms Aldridge said that the number and quality of entries in the floral section was especially good this year, and the committee were pleased to see so many entries paying homage to the theme of shoes and boots.

Other categories were also well patronised.

“The cooking and craft sections attracted a good amount of entries, and the quality was excellent as well, so we were very pleased,” Ms Aldridge said.

Local artist Geoff Lugg, who coordinates the art category, told the Leader that the standard of entries this year was excellent.

“There are some terrific stand-out pieces and the overall standard is very high,” he said.

“It’s really pleasing to see artists of all ages, most of them local, taking the opportunity to enter their work.”
