THE initial stages of the redevelopment of Numurkah Pioneers Memorial Lodge are well under way.

A user group, established to provide input and guidance on the project from various levels of expertise and viewpoints such as consumer, clinical, staffing and support services, has been  meeting weekly to discuss options for the redevelopment.

The group recently visited aged care facilities at Wodonga, Yackandandah and Benalla to gather ideas and look at best practice models of care and potential design options, layout and facilities. 

The master plan and feasibility study are being undertaken by Bamford Architects. 

The entire project, including master planning, feasibility study and redevelopment stages ,will include extensive consultation over the coming months with residents, families, staff, volunteers and the involvement of the broader community.

A community information and consultation session, attended by over 50 people, was held in July, providing an opportunity for residents, families, community members and staff to ask questions and provide input into potential options and site considerations.

The master plan and feasibility study process is expected to take six months and will focus on the needs and preferences of consumers, now and in the future, the site options and opportunities, latest design, structure, development guidelines, the character of the local area and other considerations.

A range of aspects are being looked at, such as enhanced rooms with ensuites, state-of-the-art equipment, modern design, new living, dining facilities, activity areas and fit-out, and outdoor areas, enhanced landscaping and gardens, etc.

The master plan and feasibility study will provide the necessary information to proceed to architectural design and construction.

The Numurkah Pioneers Memorial Lodge redevelopment project is self-funded, with Numurkah District Health Service using reserves to fund the capital project.
