Strathmerton Bulldogs reign supreme at Berrigan on Saturday

STRATHMERTON players are the kings and queens of the Picola District Football Netball League after winning both the senior football and A grade netball premierships at Berrigan on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were playing in the season decider for the sixth time in seven seasons, with only one flag to show for their efforts and were determined to double that record against Waaia.

After the Bombers scored the first goal of the game through Charlie Burrows, Strathmerton reeled of the next five majors and was never headed again on the way to a 38 point victory.

Strathy led by 14 points at the first break, and 16 at both half and three quarter times before sealing the game with a four goals to one final stanza.

Veteran Bulldog Lance Oswald, who had played all his junior football at the club, was named the winner of both the AFL Victorian Country and PDFNL best on ground medallions, but was not the only one of his team to shine.

Matt O’Kane, Shannon Emmett, Matt Shannon, Adrian Crestani and Simon Russell all provided valuable support, while for Waaia Ash Thompson, Aaron Shelton, Charlie Burrows and the Cleelands, Mitch and Jordy, were better players.

Waaia will be ruing the loss, as it has been clearly the best team in the competition over the previous two season, having lost only three matches in that period.
