THERE were tons of reasons to celebrate in the Numurkah club rooms after the B and C grade cricket matches finished on Saturday, with young Kody Jackson scoring his first century for the Blues in B grade and the evergreen Tyson Woods bringing up a century in a C grade thriller.

Numurkah’s B grade cricketers resumed play, with Undera 6/102, already having surpassed the home side’s score the previous week.

Bailey Roberts was first to strike, with the score at 112, before two wickets to Reydan Lacuin and one to Myles Martin saw Undera all out for 164.

The Blues had work to do, as they had to negotiate a significant number of overs from Undera to avoid an outright loss.

Young guns Matt Price and Kody Jackson were sent in to open and put on a solid partnership of 30 runs before Price was dismissed for seven.

Bailey Smith and Bailey Roberts, four and a duck respectively, both briefly joined Jackson before their dismissals.

Dustan Ebborn was next to the crease, and with Jackson, the pair put on 81 runs to take the score to 111, before Ebborn lost his wicket for 19.

Although losing James Pruden and Reydan Lacuin, both for no score, Sam Spicer remained six not out supporting Jackson on his way to 118 not out.

The game was called early with the Blues at 6/162.

The highlight of the Blues’ second innings was the fantastic knock from young Kody Jackson, who was unbeaten on 118, his first century for the Blues.

This Saturday, the Blues who are sitting sixth on the ladder, travel to Lemnos Recreation Reserve to play Pine Lodge, which is eighth but on the same amount of points.

C GRADE
The C grade game at Numurkah on Saturday was a thriller with the home side chasing down Mooroopna’s 184 with one wicket remaining.

Young openers, Hunter Verhoeven and Callum Morris resumed Numurkah’s innings at 0/7, and moved the score along to 10 before Verhoeven and Morris were both dismissed within two overs of each other.

Kade O’Dwyer, who has been in fine form recently, was next in at number three, but soon left for a duck, which brought veteran Tyson Woods to the crease alongside Riley Dawson, with the score 3/19.

A nice partnership was building but unfortunately a miscommunication resulted in Dawson being run out for a duck.

The ever reliable Daniel Hughes came to the crease at 4/33, but he too was dismissed for no score.

Consistent contributors Brett O’Dwyer and Dave Roberts joined Woods at the crease, but both also couldn’t get going and were dismissed cheaply.

With Mooroopna on top at 7/74, promising young player Connor Sessions came to the crease and played a pivotal role in setting up a partnership of 46 runs with Woods.

Although only making five runs, he showed maturity and grit, keeping a cool head, and worked well alongside Woods, until he was dismissed with the score at 8/120.

With a fair amount of work still to be done, Blues captain Jason Verhoeven joined Woods at the crease, and he was determined to get the team over the line.

The pair combined for a 64 run partnership, before a rash shot saw Verhoeven depart for 33 with the scores level.

Veteran Steve Morris was the last man in, joining Woods at the crease, the two of them seeing the score to 190 before Woods was finally out for a wonderful knock of 119.

Numurkah plays fifth placed Karramomus this Saturday at Vibert Reserve.
